Discover how to create wonderfully crispy Korean beef parcels, bringing vibrant Asian flavours to your dinner table in a flash. This recipe is ideal for those busy evenings when you crave something special yet simple.

Crispy Korean Beef Parcels: Your Quick Weeknight Dinner

Crafting a delicious and satisfying dinner in under half an hour is entirely achievable, even when exploring globally inspired flavours. These crispy Korean beef parcels are designed precisely for this purpose: to maximise taste and convenience without sacrificing your precious evening time. With just 10 minutes of active preparation and approximately 18 minutes of cooking, this dish integrates perfectly into a busy routine. The secret lies in ready-rolled puff pastry, ensuring a delightful crispness and speed, paired with thinly sliced beef that cooks in moments. While the beef absorbs its rich flavours, the oven preheats and the parcels are assembled, creating an efficient workflow that gets your meal from start to table in 30 minutes.

Quick Overview

  • Preparation Time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 18 minutes
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of fresh rectangular puff pastry
  • 10.6 oz (300g) thinly sliced beef strips
  • 2 spring onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 0.8 inch (2cm) piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Chilli flakes (optional, to taste)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C Fan / Gas Mark 6) and line a baking tray with baking parchment. Unroll the puff pastry and cut it into 8 equal squares.
  2. In a non-stick frying pan, heat the olive oil over a medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and quickly brown for 2-3 minutes until golden. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the garlic, ginger, and the white parts of the spring onions. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil into the pan. Return the beef to the pan and mix well to combine with the seasoning, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened. If using, add the chilli flakes.
  5. Distribute the beef filling evenly over the centre of each puff pastry square. Fold the pastry in half to form a triangle or rectangle and seal the edges well by pressing with a fork.
  6. Arrange the parcels on the prepared baking tray. Lightly brush the surface with a little water or milk (if available) and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy. Serve immediately, garnished with the chopped green parts of the spring onions.

Serving & Leftovers

Serve these crispy parcels hot straight from the oven, perhaps alongside a simple green salad for a well-balanced meal. Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the oven to restore the pastry’s delightful crispness.
